More Soccer

Nick loves soccer practice. He wants to be goalie. He encourages the other boys to pass the ball, get the ball, and kick the ball while he is standing in front of the goal blocking it. He is too funny! He had a conversation with Debi about soccer and why she doesn’t play soccer. She said she didn’t know all the rules so she couldn’t play. Smart Nick said “Here are the rules: only goalies can touch the ball, keep the ball between the white lines, and not hurting the other players. You can play now.” Too funny!

Guess Who is Walking

Danni started walking over the weekend. She now prefers to walk instead of crawl. Of course, if she is crying, then she can’t balance enough to walk so she crawls or just sits still and cries. She doesn’t cry often either so most of the time she is walking around with an occasional uh oh fall.

First Word – uhoh!

Danni has her first word. UhOh! She says it all the time now. Most of the time she says it appropriately. She even does things so she can say Uhoh! Yesterday, during her ECI visit, she kept dropping blocks and cheerios just so she could say uhoh! If she takes her sock off, she will say uhoh so you know she has them off. We are thinking pretty soon we will be called uhoh since that is the only word she will say.

On another note, she laughs and smiles a lot. She is rarely cries. She is learning to give kisses and blow kisses and does them when SHE feels like it not upon request.

First Soccer Practice

Nick had his first soccer practice last night. He is super excited about playing soccer this year. He told Coach Josh he never played before and this was his first time. When Coach Josh asked him “Can you touch the ball with your hands?”, Nick told him “No, only goalies can touch it.” He has been paying attention! His practice was cut short because it started to rain. He was so excited he wanted to keep practicing but didn’t want to get wet. There was a little boy who was hiding in the back of the goal because he wanted to keep practicing in the rain. His dad had to get him out of the goal. Nick says he wants to be goalie. Who knows what is in store for him…

ECI – Early Childhood Intervention

Danni was evaluated by ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) yesterday. They help kids from birth to 3 years old in any of 5 different developmental areas as well as many other areas. They come out to the house for the sessions. In order to qualify, she would have to be at least 3 months or more behind in any 1 of the 5 areas. She qualified for 2 out of the 5 areas. In one area, she was scored at 15 months…a month ahead. She is going to be a smart cookie. Look out! The ladies who came out said she is doing very well for coming from an orphanage and only in the USA for almost 3 months. We are very thankful her foster mom took such good care of her.

More teeth for both kids

Nick is getting in his 6 year old molar at the top. The dentist said his bottom ones will probably come in shortly as they are just under the gums. In the xrays, you can see he is about to lose 2 more teeth (top and bottom). If he does, he will have a big gap in the center of his mouth.

Danni started getting in 2 more bottom teeth a few weeks ago. At the dentist, we saw she is getting 2 more top teeth in as well. She didn’t want to open her mouth for anyone, but we could see them when we made her laugh.

Welcome shower for Danni

Our friends threw us a wonderful welcome home shower for Danni. It was so wonderful! She got lots of nice clothes for the summer and toys to play with. Danni showed off her personality and smartness. She only had to be shown once how to make a card play music and she was able to do it on her own after that. She loves all her gifts. Thank you so much Kristin Kelly and Tricia Steele for making it happen. Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who came out to celebrate with us. We missed those that could not make it. Danni is truly a blessing to us. Big brother Nick is impatiently waiting for her to be big enough to run and play with.

Day 5 of being sick

Poor Danni is on day 5 of being sick. We originally thought her fever was due to teething because it was a low grade temp. At mid-night on Sunday morning, her temp was 104.2 so Debi gave her a bath and Tylenol. On Sunday, Debi took her to Urgent Care because Danni’s breathing was getting bad and she would not eat or drink. Danni was tested for RSV, flu, and strep throat. She was positive for RSV and flu. The doctor looked at her ears and she had an ear infection too. The doctor felt we caught it early enough that Tamiflu and antibiotics would help her and she would be better by the end of the week.

Danni didn’t have a temp all day Tuesday, but this afternoon it was back 102.5. We started the Tylenol/Mortin regiment so hopefully she will be better by Saturday. Our friends are throwing a party to celebrate her being home. We hope she is well enough to attend it. Her breathing is better and the pediatrician checked her ears and they are all clear. She just needs to get over the flu stuff now.

Another tooth comes out

Nick has another missing tooth! It had been loose for about 3 weeks but no progress was getting made no matter what he ate. He started complaining it was hurting and wanted to pull it out. Debi put a thread on it and let him pull it out himself. He was so proud of it. He now talks a little funny depending on the sound the word makes. He is missing 2 teeth (one on the top and one on the bottom). They line up to make a nice little gap he can put his tongue through a little.

4 snow days in a row and more

Nick’s school had 4 snow days in a row this week. WOW! We never had snow days growing up and to have 4 days in a row is unheard of. We had ice for the first 2 days and the next 2 days were snow. We got about 6 inches of snow and more was falling on Friday morning. Chuck didn’t have any snow days and went into work each day driving slow.

On Saturday, we didn’t get any more snow but there was plenty on the ground. Last night, we ventured out of hibernation to go to church.

Today, there is still some snow on the ground but not much. The sun out helps get it all melted. We are planning to go to a local Chinese New Year celebration. Nick wanted to know if it will be like other Chinese New Year celebrations we have been to in the past. Debi had to explain to him this was going to be different. There will most likely be no firecrackers and no dancing dragons. This will be our first Chinese New Year celebration with other adoptive parents and we are excited about going and connecting to more adoptive families in the area.
