Nick and Debi went on Nick’s first field trip in 1st grade to Blase Family Farm. They have a pumpkin patch, hay ride, and feeding the animals. After the pumpkin patch, they went to have a picnic in the park. It was fun day.

Happy Birthday Nick
Happy Birthday Nick!!!
Nick celebrated his 7th birthday today. We kept it low key because he wants to have his birthday party with Danni. Thanks to cousins, Tori & Spencer, for the idea of having birthday parties together every other year. Nick wants to be just like his cousins and share his birthday parties with his sister.
Nick’s report card
Nick got his report card today. He did very well. He got all Excellent. The teacher’s note said “Nick is a very smart boy. He needs to work on his behavior like following directions and making wise decisions.” When Debi picked him up from school, the teacher told her that she sees a valedictorian in his future. She said he is super smart and one of the smartest students in her class but his behavior is keeping him from learning so much more.
Follow up visit for broken bone
Debi took Danni to a pediatric orthopedic at Children’s Hospital. The doctor seems to think Danni’s bone will heal just fine with the boot. He wants to do another set of xrays in 3 weeks to check it. There is no damage to the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th metatarsel so they are acting as a splint for the broken 3rd metatarsel. The boot is acting as a splint for the top and bottom.
Broken bones – YIKES!
We always thought Nick would be the first to have a broken bone with his fearless nature and love of dare devilish behavior. Well, Thursday night, Danni broke her foot. She pulled a speaker wire and the speaker came crashing down onto her. With some fast acting, a friend pulled on the cord and the speaker hit only her foot. Unfortunately, the speaker broke the bone in her foot of her middle toe. Debi took her to urgent care and the bone is broken in half and isn’t aligned. The urgent care doctor wanted her to see an orthopedic Friday, so Debi searched to find a pediatric orthopedic to see Danni on Friday. There was no luck. Debi got her an appointment with her orthopedic and Danni is now in a boot for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Debi also got an appointment with a pediatric orthopedic at Children’s for Tuesday. We are going to get a second opinion just because the bone is broken in half and we want to make sure there is no long term issues with it getting broke.
Skating Party
Our niece (Tori) and nephew (Spencer) had a skating birthday party together. Tori’s is in August and Spencer’s is in October, but they agreed to have their birthday party together. It worked out great because now Nick wants to have his and Danni’s birthday party together. YAY!!! Danni went skating for the first time. She seemed to love it and wanted absolutely NO help at all. She was off and going. Nick is getting better at skating and didn’t fall as much as he did last year. He likes it so much that he wants his and Danni’s birthday party to be a skating party.
Adoption Conference & AWANA
Our adoption ministry hosted an Adoption and Foster Care Conference over the weekend. There were roughly 350 people at the conference. We got the privilege to hear Dr Karyn Purvis speak. She is a great inspirational speaker.
AWANA started this weekend as well. Debi is co-secretary for Cubbies (3 & 4 year old children). Nick was super excited about the Cowboys playing and first day of AWANA. His teacher is Jack. Nick calls him the big guy who was at the adoption conference lifting heavy stuff. Funny how he remembers people. Jack is the son of dear friends who co-lead the adoption ministry with us and also one of our life group (bible study) teachers.
Labor Day Weekend
We spent the weekend at Lake Limestone. The water level had dropped a lot from when we were there 4th of July weekend. Nick loved being there because he was in the water and was trying to swim. Guess we need to look into swim lessons. Danni still doesn’t care for the water. She would rather watch it than be in it.
Colorado Wedding
We went to Colorado for Chuck’s Brother’s wedding. It was super nice weather there. It rained a little and was nice and cool. Definitely better than the Texas heat. Danni was a flower girl in the wedding and was carried down the aisle by Chuck. Nick was a ring bearer and walked down the aisle to stand by Chuck. He was all smiles too. The wedding was an outdoor wedding and the weather was perfect for it. Everything was wonderful then we had to come home to the Texas heat.
First Day of School
Nick had his first day of school. He came home with “I like my teacher. She is crazy.” Not really sure that is a good thing for him to think she is crazy. He did say he liked it and met new friends. One of his classmates he knew from the TaeKwonDo school so that was a plus.
